AN EVENING WITH ZIDA BORCICH & IRA ROSENBERG
Aretha Franklin had the voice of a generation, and we are pleased to honor her memory with a screening of the lost Sydney Pollack film, the breathtaking Amazing Grace, followed by a live musical performance by IZ Jazz: vocalist Zida Borcich and jazz pianist Ira Rosenberg will perform an eclectic set of music across time in a bow to the legacy of the unforgettable Queen of Soul.
Called “one of the most famous films never released,” Amazing Grace, is the thrilling Aretha Franklin concert film that documents the famed Queen of Soul’s two-night performance with James Cleveland and the Southern California Community Choir at a Baptist church in Watts, before a packed audience of appreciative fans, including Mick Jagger. The film was made by Oscar-winning director and one of the founders of the Mendocino Film Festival Sydney Pollack, yet had remained unseen and unfinished for 46 years. Audiences will finally see Franklin sing a mix of gospel standards and contemporary songs as well as the iconic title track. The documentary languished in a vault for over three decades until producer Alan Elliott, supervised the completion of the film and remastered the soundtrack.
