The Ballad of Fred Hersch
Be Our Guest: Brewmaster Dinner and Film Screening
Thursday, October 13, 6:30 PM at the Sequoia Room
$75 (includes dinner, Brewmaster beer pairings, and film)

Please join us on Thursday, October 13, at 6:30 pm for a Brewmaster Benefit Dinner at the Sequoia Room, featuring a four-course dinner expertly paired with North Coast Brewing Company’s best brews and a special screening of The Ballad of Fred Hersch, fresh from its West Coast Premiere at Mill Valley Film Festival. 100% of proceeds benefit the Mendocino Film Festival.

The film profiles the witty and endearing jazz pianist Fred Hersch, an LGBT activist, composer, and musician who has lived with HIV since the early 1990s and in 2008 narrowly survived an AIDS-related coma. He recovered to win the award for Jazz Pianist of the Year from the Jazz Journalists Association in 2011 and 2016. Both the dinner and the screening will take place at The Sequoia Room, home to North Coast Brewing Company’s jazz performance series.  Read more. See the Menu. Purchase Tickets.

North Coast Brewing Company

Spotlight on North Coast Brewing Company
North Coast Brewing Company is truly a Festival MVP! In a couple weeks, they will host a Brewmaster Benefit Dinner for us, where we will screen The Ballad of Fred Hersch. Along with sponsoring our 2016 Audience Choice Award, our friends at North Coast Brewing Company provided all the beer for our Festival events and concessions as our Official Beer Sponsor.

Doug Moody also hosted Jaco (featuring Robert Trujillo of Metallica and filmmaker Paul Marchand) and co-hosted Landfill Harmonic. Meanwhile, Joe Seta did a stellar job hosting our Reel Mendo closing night program. Thank you, North Coast Brewing Company, for all your years of support!

Landfill Harmonic Audience Choice Award Winner
Drumroll, Please…

Speaking of the Audience Choice Award, have you heard the news? Landfill Harmonic won our 2016 Audience Choice Award! The story of children from a Paraguayan landfill who form an orchestra using instruments created out of trash, Landfill Harmonic won hearts and resonated with our audience, taking the top spot at the Eleventh Annual Mendocino Film Festival. Three of the top five films were music documentaries, a fitting sweep for the first year of our partnership with the Mendocino Music Festival. Read more.
