The film profiles the witty and endearing jazz pianist Fred Hersch, an LGBT activist, composer, and musician who has lived with HIV since the early 1990s and in 2008 narrowly survived an AIDS-related coma. He recovered to win the award for Jazz Pianist of the Year from the Jazz Journalists Association in 2011 and 2016.
