North Coast Brewing Company to Host Fundraiser, Screening for Mendocino Film Festival
October 13 dinner and screening of The Ballad of Fred Hersch to benefit the Festival
MENDOCINO, CA – On October 13, two days after its West Coast Premiere at Mill Valley, documentary film The Ballad of Fred Hersch will come to the Sequoia Room at North Coast Brewing Company as part of a fundraising Brewmaster Dinner for the Mendocino Film Festival. The film explores the life of award-winning jazz pianist Fred Hersch, an LGBT activist, composer, and musician who has lived with HIV since the early 1990s and in 2008 narrowly survived an AIDS-related coma. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Mendocino Film Festival.
“The film was the perfect choice for the evening, especially given North Coast Brewing Company’s devotion to jazz education,” says Michael Fox, executive director of the Mendocino Film Festival. “Add to that the fact that North Coast Brewing Company’s very own Doug Moody was a 2016 Jazz Journalists Association (JJA) Jazz Hero and Fred Hersch was the 2016 JJA Jazz Pianist of the Year, and we were sold on the film.”
“We are always thrilled to partner with the Mendocino Film Festival,” says Doug Moody. “During our partnerships on music film screenings and in the course of promoting independent artists and filmmakers, we have seen the organization grow and evolve, and we are happy to be a part of the journey. The Mendocino Film Festival is world-class, but it is at its heart a community organization: it enriches the area, we enjoy working with them, and it makes sense to continue the legacy for North Coast Brewing Co.’s support of the Arts over the past 28 years.”
The Ballad of Fred Hersch, the latest from filmmakers Charlotte Lagarde (Real Boy) and Oscar-nominated Carrie Lozano (The Weather Underground), will follow a four-course Brewmaster Dinner artfully paired with North Coast Brewing Company’s best brews. Both the dinner and the screening will take place at The Sequoia Room, home to North Coast Brewing Company’s jazz performance series. Reservations are recommended. Tickets are available online at MendocinoFilmFestival.org or by phone at 707-937-0171.
