Robert Trujillo of Metallica to attend the 2016 Mendocino Film Festival with Jaco

Trujillo will participate in a Q&A following the June 4 screening of the film

MENDOCINO, CA – On Saturday, June 4, a music legend comes to Mendocino. Joining the illustrious ranks of the many artists and musicians who have discovered Mendocino over the years, Robert Trujillo, the bass guitarist of Metallica, will attend the Eleventh Annual Mendocino Film Festival with the film Jaco. Jaco, which Trujillo wrote and produced, tells the story of legendary bassist Jaco Pastorius, who revolutionized the instrument and in doing so, inspired generations of future musicians, including Trujillo himself.

Jaco screens on Saturday, June 4, at 8:00 pm at Crown Hall in Mendocino Village, followed by a Q&A with Trujillo, director Paul Marchand, and host Doug Moody of North Coast Brewing Company. Jaco tells the story of Jaco Pastorius, the “Jimi Hendrix of Bass,” and features interviews with many of the musicians he inspired, including Carlos Santana, Joni Mitchell, Sting, and Robert Trujillo himself.

Trujillo grew up surrounded by many styles of music, ranging from classical to James Brown. He originally studied jazz-fusion — but then he saw Jaco Pastorius perform with Weather Report in Santa Monica in 1979, and it changed his life. Trujillo went on to play bass for Infectious Grooves, Ozzy Osbourne, Suicidal Tendencies, and, of course, Metallica.

“I’m looking forward to sharing and celebrating our beautiful film Jaco with our friends at the Mendocino Film Festival,” says Trujillo. He adds that he can’t wait to enjoy “Wild flowers, fresh Northern California air along with the energy and spirit of Jaco Pastorius — sounds like a great weekend to me!”

As for the Mendocino Film Festival team, they are thrilled to welcome Trujillo to Mendocino.

“I think it speaks to the caliber of our films and the caliber of Mendocino that we have such a stellar lineup of special guests, from Andre Leon Talley and Robert Trujillo to Scott Feinberg and Leslie Sbrocco,” says Mendocino Film Festival Executive Director Michael Fox. “This region’s striking natural beauty is a strong selling point; the thriving art scene and friendly hospitality of the community is an even stronger one. We’re looking forward to showing off all three when our Festival guests arrive.”
