We are delighted to present this first sneak peek at our 2016 Mendocino Film Festival program, including Oscar Nominees Embrace of the Serpent and Bear Story! Read on for details and to see the trailers for our Oscar contenders, as well as five other critically-acclaimed films that will screen at the Eleventh Annual Mendocino Film Festival, May 27-29 and June 2-5, 2016.

Embrace of the Serpent
This 2016 Academy Award nominee depicts 40 years of friendship between an Amazonian shaman -– the last of his tribe –- and two scientists searching for a sacred healing plant, set against the backdrop of the ravages of colonialism. Trailer.

Bear Story

Jafar Panahi’s Taxi

The Messenger

Don’t miss these upcoming events, from the North County to South Coast.Tuesday, March 1: India Short Stories World Premiere (Arena Theater)
Local filmmaker Joe Mickey presents his film India Short Stories, filmed in India over the course of two years, at this benefit for Arena Theater. Screening starts at 7:00 pm. Q&A with Joe following the film. Read more.

Saturday, March 5: Whale Festival Wine Tasting
Celebrate the Whale Festival with us! Stop by the Mendocino Film Festival office at the Water Tower (next to Frankie’s on Ukiah St. in Mendocino) from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm to sample wine and learn about our 2016 program.Tickets.

Fri., Mar. 11-Sat., Mar. 26: Mendocino County Museum Road Show
Take a tour through the history of Mendocino with this unique show! Enjoy local history live with musical accompaniment, vintage photos, and good cheer. This roving theatrical performance takes place at venues around the county. Each of the six shows begin at 7:00 pm. Learn more.

Saturday, April 9: Second Saturday
Join us at the Community Center in Mendocino for Second Saturday starting at 5:00 pm. Hear all about our plans for the Eleventh Annual Mendocino Film Festival and watch the film trailers on the big screen as we toast to our most diverse and award-winning program yet.

Saturday, April 9: Of the Sea at Arena Theater
You helped make it happen, and now you can see the final product! With the support of the Mendocino Film Festival and the community, local filmmaker Mischa Hedges was able to complete his film Of the Sea. Mischa screened a sneak preview of the film at the 2015 Mendocino Film Festival, and now he is back on the coast to present the finished product at 7:00 pm in Point Arena.
