“A love letter to the land.”
(Q&A with filmmaker after screening)
Young farmer Austin Blair and his girlfriend, filmmaker Casey Beck, decide to conduct an experiment: they will spend a year farming to decide whether farm life is financially and emotionally sustainable. Challenges abound as the idealistic young couple discover that living organically isn’t always easy from a personal standpoint, and an ever-diminishing amount of free time to spend with friends, family, and each other begins to show its wear on their relationships. Despite the hurdles, Austin and Casey begin to understand why this lifestyle might be worth it. The Organic Life provides an inside look into the little-seen world of organic farming, revealing that, in spite of changing climate, financial insecurity, demanding physical labor, and corporate agriculture, organic farming could be one of the most sustainable roads into the future.
