“Retains the specific local colors of its Myanmar setting while also evoking the universalism of its child protagonists' struggle in understanding the strange world out there beyond the home. Leaves the viewer to absorb the ambiance and think beyond the headlines.”

Clarence Tsui, The Hollywood Reporter

Q&A with filmmaker after screening

Four orphan boys are studying to become monks in a remote monastery in northeast Myanmar. After the head monk departs on a long journey from which he may or may not ever return, the boys find themselves alone at their monastery in the middle of the forest. At first, they enjoy the newfound freedom, but soon, strange, magical occurrences begin to pass, and Witazara, one of the orphans, realizes he must protect the three other boys as they endure this series of bizarre events that threaten to unravel the fabric of their reality. Shot entirely in newly-opened Myanmar with non-actors, the film bridges spirit, cinema, and traditional Burmese storytelling to open a view into a previously unseen world. In Burmese with English subtitles.
